THE first of two competitions to report on from Thurlestone Tennis Club is the Quaich.

This consists of nine holes of golf in the morning, followed by round-robin tennis in the afternoon and eight pairs participated.

Stewart Barnes and Martin Eyre led at the halfway stage but were met with stiff opposition in the tennis. The final result hinged on the last game of tennis, Joseph & Matthew Kleiner Mann just edging out Olly & Tommy Walker, 34 points to 33.

Moving on to the Richardson Cup and this was delayed by a week due to bad weather. The winners of both age groups came through five round-robin matches then semi-finals and finals.

In the final of the 10-13 age group, William McEwen and Freddie Young convincingly beat Joe Collyer Hamlyn and Eloise Hill.

Meanwhile, Edward Lee and Thomas Parkinson narrowly defeated Charlie Bewes and Jed Abell 5-3 on games, in the 14-18 final.

Gary Herbert, Olympic gold medallist, generously donated these cups and prizes with the victorious duos being pictured here.
