THE Kit Marshall Family Cup is one of the most popular tournaments in the holiday programme at Thurlestone Tennis Club.
Again, this year, there was a good entry of 24 pairs and for some children, it is their first-ever tournament. It helps them to prepare for future events and hopefully a love of tennis!
After the round-robin matches there were four quarter-final matches, featuring six group winners and two lucky losing pairs.
Kit was the only grandfather in the competition and is to be congratulated on being a lucky loser with grandson Jack, but unfortunately, they came up against Neal and Rufus Bailey! Other quarter-final results were as follows: Clare & Harrison Boyle beat William Knight & Will McEwen, Freddie & Edward Lee beat Jim & Poppy Salkeld and Julian & Wilbur Mack beat lucky losers James & Harry Amos.
In the semi-finals, Neal & Rufus Bailey overcame Clare & Harrison Boyle whilst Freddie & Edward Lee needed a 7-5 tiebreak to defeat Julian & Wilbur Mack.
In the excellent final, Freddie and Edward definitely had their eye in from their close semi and managed to beat Neal and Rufus by four games to two.
Other ‘sports personality’ presentations were made to Charlie Brittain who came in to play at the last minute and rose to the occasion and also to Bea Kemp who so obviously enjoyed all her games!
At the presentation, Janet Richardson thanked Kit Marshall for his continued support and for once again generously providing and presenting the prizes and ice creams!
