THE scoring for the recent competitions at Bigbury Golf Club continue to be rather exceptional, with handicaps being cut for many of our players.
An exceptional 74 players entered the recent Mid-Week Stableford when there were excellent scores as well as an amazing achievement by Roy Mitchell. Roy bagged himself birdie twos on the 3rd and 17th holes, but topped this pair with an eagle two on the difficult dog-leg 16th hole; his drive cut the corner and landed on the edge of the green. Roy then chipped in for his Eagle!
With such a huge entry, two divisions were needed. The Division One winner was Crispin Manners (9) with a score of 42 Stableford points. In second place and just one point behind was Phil Towner (11) and even with his birdies and an eagle, Roy Mitchell (4) was third with 39 points.
Division Two was just as competitive with Phil Nile (20) winning with his excellent score of 45, being pushed all the way by Dave Bogue (17) with his score of 44. In third place was Stuart Newberry (20) on 42 points.
There were nine birdies, as well as the eagle two, recorded on the day. A second player bagging himself a pair was Jason Holtom on the 3rd and 7th holes; Simon Hill also recorded a birdie on the seventh. Dave Bogue recorded his on the 15th hole, and the 17th hole was generous with David Fox, Crispin Manners and Phil Towner all recording their birdies on that hole.
The Ladies Westlake Round 2 and Medal competitions were held on July 27. As reported recently, Linda Hanbury with her score of Nett 65 had set quite a target in the Westlake Round 1. Linda’s Nett 65 proved to be the winning score, although both Diane Clasby and Margaret Taylor were so close with their scores of Nett 66.
On the same day, a difficult Medal competition was played and it proved to be very competitive. The Division One winner was Helen Dinsdale (23) with a score of Nett 72, and count-back was needed to decide the second and third places with both Amanda Burchell (6) and Pip Fisher only one shot behind. The computer showed it was Amanda second and Pip third.
Jane Wain (28) was the convincing winner of Division Two with a Nett 69. In second place was Sue Warren (32) with a 73, and third with her score of 74 was Eve Naylor (39).
Susan Winzer (31) also had a very good round bagging herself the only birdie two of the competition, winning what was a most worthwhile rollover kitty.
