GISELLE Ansley found the back of the net for Team GB in their women’s hockey opener at the 2024 Olympics.

Ansley, a 32-year-old from Kingsbridge, scored from a penalty corner in the early stages of the clash with Spain.

All of the goalmouth action came early on with the Spaniards leading 2-1 after about five minutes, and that was how the score finished after an hour of hockey.

This defeat in Paris for Ansley and co was followed up by another, this time at the hands of three-time gold medallists Australia, finishing 4-0 earlier today.

There is still the opportunity to turn things around though, in the form of clashes in their pool versus South Africa, USA and finally, Argentina.

South Africa are next up, on Wednesday July 31, USA awaiting the following day in the afternoon and then the group stages come to a close for GB on August 3 at 9am BST.
