DARTMOUTH Ladies’ President’s Trophy matches came to an end this week. Sadly, after a run of wins, the season ended with a 5.5-1.5 loss to Thurlestone.
The matches will be remembered for the team spirit engendered by President’s Captain Alison White and the competitive but friendly way in which they were played. The scores in the division are very tight and Dartmouth wish Thurlestone the best of luck if they progress to the next stage.
Meanwhile, the gold Championship tees are a formidable challenge - one that is often eschewed by professionals - so it’s remarkable that so many of the men put themselves forward to play in the Rogers Gold Cup.
Recent heavy rain had softened the fairways and lessened the roll on the greens but also mitigated some of the more unpredictable bounces. Despite the yardage, scores in the top spots were peppered with pars and there were birdies throughout the field. Lee Marels birdied two and parred thirteen but on a handicap of +1, could only manage 34 points and third place; Stuart Jamieson was also on the par and birdie trail and was one point ahead in second place.
Andy Birss was the man of the moment, the investment in a mini driver a few weeks ago proving to be a wise one as he had the best return, with nine pars and a 38-point winning score. Congratulations to all who took part.
In the adjacent mixed Stableford, Barrie O’Shea (36pts), Gary Bonser (35pts) and Rob Isaacs-Berry (34pts) took the respective podium spots.
