BRIDPORT FC and Newton Abbot Spurs both jumped back ahead of Stoke Gabriel & Torbay Police with the Bees not in action over the weekend.

The pair now sit third and fourth respectively in the Walter C Parson SW Peninsula League on 44 points apiece, one more than the fifth-placed Stoke team.

Games played muddies the water massively though with Bridport having played 25, the same amount as second-placed Cullompton Rangers, whilst Stoke have played 23 and Spurs just 19.

Owen Green scored both goals for title hopefuls Spurs when they visited local rivals Bovey Tracey AFC at Mill Marsh Park, securing a 14th victory of the campaign.

For Bridport it was an emphatic 6-0 win over second-from-bottom Torrington AFC courtesy of strikes from Joe Charles (2), Fred Parsons, Stefanos Stavrianos and substitute George Geraghty (2).

There were two other games to be played in the Premier East and both finished 2-1 in favour of the home teams. Crediton United overcame Axminster Town and Torridgeside AFC beat Middlezoy Rovers.

Also, there was a League Cup outing for Honiton Town who booked their spot in the next round with a 3-0 win away at Newquay AFC of the West Division.

Looking ahead now and Stoke have a fascinating clash at Broadley Lane with the aforementioned Bridport as the top six are all playing against each other. Bridport then host Stoke in the reverse fixture in a couple of weeks time.

A win in this first meeting would take Stoke ahead of Bridport in the standings and they would of course still boast two games in hand as well.

Meanwhile, Spurs head to Simmons Park to take on an Okehampton Argyle side who are heading in the wrong direction and it is 1st vs 2nd with Sidmouth Town welcoming Cully.
