THE outdoor bowling season has drawn to a close with Totnes BC completing a wide range of matches throughout the season, including 20 friendly matches against local clubs and entertaining visitors from clubs further afield.
At the club AGM on Saturday, October 26, many congratulations were made to the club’s ladies team who were runners-up in this season's 4321 competition as well as reaching the semi-final of the Inter-Club competition. They are pictured with plenty of smiles.
As well as these successes, they were also runner-up in the South Devon League third division gaining promotion to Division Two of the 2025 SDL league.
After a busy season, the men’s ‘A’ team are unfortunately returning to the Mid Devon League 3 from where they were promoted from last season. They missed staying up in the last match of the season despite winning three out of the four rinks, losing out by only one point in the overall result. The men’s ‘B’ team remain in MDL 4, where they finished mid-table at the end of the season.
The club’s Over 55s team also had a good season, finishing in mid-table once again.
It is Totnes Bowls Club Centenary Year in 2025 and plans are in hand to play a number of different matches as part of the events. The club has been accepted for an England Bowls Centenary Match which takes place in May 2025.
As a bowls club, the first ever match played was against Dawlish Lawns Bowls Club and a similar match will be played 100 years on also in May 2025. The Devon Bowls Presidents will also be joining Totnes for a centenary fixture with another match also in May 2025.
Having had a reasonably successful recruitment campaign in 2024, the club is looking forward to the 2025 season when the newer members can become even more involved in the competitions. The season opens on April 5, 2025, and will be offering the opportunity for anyone interested in playing bowls or developing their game through coaching.
The coaching sessions will start on Saturday, April 26 2025 from 10.00 am to noon each week throughout the season.
