TOTNES Bowling Club took part in the England Bowls Big Weekend event where the club was open on both Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm to enable anyone to ‘come and try bowls’.
The event was blessed with good weather and a large number of visitors turned out, all having a very good time. Many people who had a go were very happy with their session and over 20 have already joined up. The event was also visited by two former members of the club, Sam Tolchard and Harry Goodwin, who have both gone on to become world bowls champions.
The club teams have also been involved in league matches with the Totnes Ladies team playing away at Brixham Furzeham where they were met with considerable success. Totnes won two of the three rinks played with a total for Totnes of 60 shots to Brixham’s 39 shots. The points for the league table resulted in Totnes receiving eight points to Brixham’s two points.
Totnes Men ‘B’ Team did not fare so well this week away against Newton Abbot where they lost all four rinks played with the shots for Newton Abbot of 89 to Totnes 57 shots. The points result towards the league competition saw all fourteen points going to Newton Abbot with zero points to Totnes.
The club also had a match in the Over 55’s League which did not go too well with only one of the two rinks played being won by Totnes. Unfortunately, the overall result was a win by Marldon with 36 shot to Totnes' 32 shots. The points awarded in the league resulted in only two points being taken by Totnes with the remainder going to Marldon.
Weekly coaching sessions continue on a Saturday morning from 10 am to Noon with an opportunity for anyone still wanting to try out bowls to come and have a go.
