Salcombe Estuary Rowing Club sent a men’s veterans team to compete in the annual Cork Ocean to City Race or An Rás Mór.
The team towed the Cornish Gig ‘Bolt’ overland from Salcombe to Cork to join more than 300 other boats from Ireland, Europe and the rest of world.
The annual event includes rowing courses over four routes from the open sea into one of the largest natural harbours in the world, with thousands of spectators.
Salcombe entered the gruelling 28km ocean course and won the veterans competition in a time of two hours 30 minutes and 50 seconds. Bolt was also the second international boat in all age groups, resulting in a quiet pint of Murphy’s in celebration.
