CSWPL premier division Ivybridge Town 3, Godolphin Atlantic 0
Ivybridge Town general manager Brian Howard will welcome back star striker Mike Smith to his side when they take on Newquay at Erme Valley tomorrow. Smith picked up a knock during last weekend's 3-0 victory against Godolphin and was rested for their St Luke's Bowl defeat to Buckland Athletic on Tuesday evening. Howard will be hoping the impressive Smith will continue to show the same level of performance he has thus far this season, as after Newquay, Town welcome title favourites St Austell to Erme Valley on Tuesday evening in what promises to be a cracking encounter. The Bridgers have their first-choice players available for tomorrow's encounter, but Howard did admit that he was a little worried about his squad's strength in depth for the match. Town have seven players missing, probably necessitating a call-up for some members of the second-team squad. Nevertheless, Ivybridge will go into the game full of confidence after a brilliant start to the season which sees them second in the league on goals scored after three games played, conceding just a single goal in the process. Their run of victories was brought to an end on Tuesday when they took on Western League opponents Buckland Athletic in the St Luke's Bowl. The 3-0 result was hardly surprising given Town were missing six senior players, including Smith, Mark Berry and Ben Smallridge, and came up against a full-strength Buckland side. Howard was candid in admitting the league was his priority, and said he could have probably played Smith in the Bowl, but instead chose to save him for tomorrow. Newquay are 10th in the league at the moment, having played four, won one and drawn two, so Town will be hopeful of another three points and ideally another clean sheet before a tough encounter against St Austell three days later. If Ivybridge play as they did against Godolphin, the win should take care of itself, as they were superb in that game. Josh Zimmerman opened the scoring for the Bridgers with just five minutes on the clock, heading home a cross to give Ivybridge the perfect start. Things evened up for a while after that, but in the second half the strikers combined to devastating effect. First Smith headed a knockdown to partner in crime Steve Sutton, who hit an excellent volley to double the Bridgers' lead. Keen to return the favour, Sutton soon delivered a cross which was controlled exquisitely by Smith before he finished calmly to seal the match. Ivybridge take on Newquay at the Erme Valley ground at 3pm tomorrow, and then welcome St Austell on Tuesday for a 7.30pm kick-off.
