WRECKS went into their final end against Wizzards just five up in the Totnes Skittles League but a final end of 61, which included spares from Adam Hyland, Dave Westaway and Les Steer, increased the victory margin to 14.
League leaders Fords also lost, only managing three spares against Panthers who themselves managed seven. A 5th end of 64 followed by two more of 55 and 54 was more than enough to give Panthers a winning lead.
Offcuts were sunk by Woodpeckers but still remain in 3rd spot. Offcuts only woke up in the 9th end with a 61– far too late to make any significant inroads on Woodpeckers lead.
Reigning pairs champions Wendy and Georgie Northway fell at the first hurdle in their title defence but it took an amazing 5-spare 111 from Alley Cats’ Sara Ellis to stop them going through. Wendy hit 3 spares in her 94 total.
Odd Westons got through the preliminary round and will next face Outsiders for a place in the semi-finals. Diamonds (pictured) left it late when Sonia Edwards hit a 14-spare on her last throw, just enough to beat Gems by one.
It took a 2-ball 22 from Meadowbrooks Emma Challis then a last end of 28 for them to edge ahead of Fordetts by three at the business end after being 9 down with an end to go.
