Riviera Division 1
Ashmoor Men's 2nd XI. 13
Ashmoor Men's 3rd XI. 0
IN AN entertaining Ashmoor derby, the 2nd team ran out expected winners, although the scoreline didn't reflect the effort and performance of a much improved 3rd team, writes Steve Dinnie.
As has been the case in the second half of the season, the 2nd team started at a blistering pace, winning a penalty corner in the opening two minutes. However, 3rd team goalkeeper and player of the match Andy Kay was equal to Charles Walker's drag flick and the scores remained 0-0.
Younger brother Henry provided the pass for Matt Pearce to break the deadlock before Walker senior (photographed by Mark Lockett) made it 2-0. Dan Cowdry, Harry Little and Charles Walker scored goals three, four and five.
Kay was busy all game and made another great save to deny Pearce his second. Before halftime, Walker completed his hattrick with another reverse stick effort, and just before the interval, Jordan Teague set up Cowdry for his second.
Cowdry completed his hat-trick immediately after the break with the goal of the game before a deflected Little effort made it 9-0.
Walker senior took it into double figures before adding two more either side of a Cellan Stokes strike.
This victory made it 20 from 20 for the 2nd XI whilst the 3rd team, who deserve a lot of credit, are themselves having a great season in 5th.
This Saturday, the 2nds travel to face Exeter University, whilst the 3rd team host North Devon 2nd XI.
Ashmoor men’s 4th XI were also in action and they secured a well-earned 2-0 win over Ocean City on home soil.
Player of the match Alex Southgate proved the difference as he notched both goals whilst goalkeeper Alex Troake also stood out at the other end. Next up they travel to face Isca.
