DESPITE India receiving a red card in the first half, Team GB were unable to dominate their quarter-final in the men’s hockey.

Amit Rohidas’ dismissal gave David Ames’ side a man advantage and yet the score was 1-1 after 60 minutes of play.

Harmanpreet Singh opened the scoring, beating Totnes-born goalkeeper Ollie Payne, before Lee Morton levelled before the break.

A penalty shootout was the deciding factor between the two teams and it was India who prevailed, meaning that the men’s GB hockey team have fallen at the final eight stage for two Olympic Games in a row.

The following day, the GB women suffered a similar fate, losing their quarter-final 3-1 at the hands of the Netherlands.

Giselle Ansley of Kingsbridge scored the team’s first goal of this tournament in a 2-1 loss to Spain but she was unable to find the back of the net in this one and make the difference.
