ASHMOOR ladies faced Launceston and Tavistock away this weekend in a rearranged fixture following the Christmas break.

Ashmoor were quick off the mark with a perfectly executed short corner scored by youngster Elsa Powell, assisted by captain Jordan Wright. Top goalscorer Tilly McEwen was next to strike after a mazy dribble, before they were pegged back to 2-2.

On the stroke of half-time, Ashmoor displayed their top form and Powell was on hand to restore the lead.

McEwen scored twice on the bounce after the break to complete a hat-trick before midfielder Emily Hunter got in on the act to round of an invigorating 6-2 win.

This well-deserved victory keeps them at the top of the table and next up is a home clash with Plymouth University. Emily Hunter was the player of the match.

Meanwhile, in Riviera Division One and Two respectively, Ashmoor men’s 3rd XI and 4th XI both drew 2-2 on their travels.

Starting with the 3rd XI and they put in a great performance in Barnstaple against a competitive and strong North Devon 2nd XI.

In spite of their depleted squad of just 10 players, Ashmoor were able to dominate. They boasted a two-goal advantage at the end of the first half as Charles Walker and younger brother Henry scored, but should have had three or four more if it weren’t for goalkeeping heroics.

The one-man advantage shone through for North Devon after the break, capitalizing and pressing higher up the pitch. A deflected effort wrong-footed Andy Kay in Ashmoor’s goal before a controversial penalty corner brought a scrambled equalizer at the death.

Skipper John Lilley was pleased with the sterling efforts to earn a point in a 10-man display.

Harry Easthope and Angus Martin set the 4th XI on their way against Ocean City only for their lead to slip away as well, two goals in the last ten minutes earning the Plymouth-based team a draw.
