MONDAY 3 June saw the first round of the Seniors Cup played on the Championship Course. Colin Cooper will be defending the overall title of Senior of the Year but was not in the field today for this one. 32 players were in the event for the initial part of this marathon!
A pleasant day with average temperatures for the year greeted our early birds and it stayed fine throughout- something of a rarity.
Messrs David Thompson and John Garner were on top form, fighting tooth and nail for first prize which eventually went the way of the former via countback. As well as claiming the Division One spoils, David now holds an initial stronghold in the Cup.
Peter Hannaford closed out the podium with a score of nett 69 whilst Bernard Young topped Division Two after scoring 71.
After 10 events, John Garner is second in the Senior of the Year standings, 10 points behind leader Gary Bonser.
Meanwhile, the Emerton Court Trophy journey ended at the first time of asking, losing 3-2 away to Saunton and 7-3 on aggregate. Dartmouth wishes their opponents well as they now advance to round two, where Libbaton await.
The friendly clash with Dainton Park also ended in defeat, 4.5-1.5, but the seniors were able to overcome China Fleet on May 30. In difficult Cornish conditions, wins for John Oldrieve & Rob Barrett and Trevor Pretty & Mark Whitworth made the difference, the overall score being 3.5-2.5.
