LINDA Hanbury arrived at Bigbury Golf Course for her Ladies Captains Day and there was colourful bunting adorning the clubhouse, both on the outside and the inside, as well as lovely floral arrangements in the ladies' locker room and the clubhouse.

The sun was kind enough to shine and 45 ladies played in a fun Stableford competition. Before starting the competition there was an unusual putting contest, with players having three balls to aim at a bottle of pink gin at the far side of the putting green. The winner was Helen Dinsdale who left a ball just two inches from the bottle. The ladies happily made a charitable donation.

Out on the course, there were some different challenges, including putting with a left-handed putter and the “flamingo hole”, where the drive was taken standing on one leg (or take a one-stroke penalty). There were also many prizes for the popular challenges, including nearest the line, nearest the pin on a par three and nearest the pin in two on a par four.

Linda had also set up “hidden teams” all with animal names, as well as a doubled score for all players on the 18th. There were prizes galore- far too many to list in fact!

Countback was needed to decide the team winners who were the Toucans, which pleased Rose Corbett, Margie Balkwill and Kerry Taylor. The runners-up were the Kangaroos team of Rosemary Coleman and Dot Kenneth.

The Stableford competition winner with a very good score of 39 points was Sue Witzner. Sue said she had enjoyed her round and the course which was playing so well. She was delighted with her flowers and thanked Linda for the super day.

After playing, prosecco and nibbles were served. The members were joined by six retired golfers and there was much catching up chatter and shared stories. Everyone then enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea, prepared by caterer Maggs and served by her team. The bone China tea services and proper teapots were so lovely.

Following the prize giving, Linda was delighted to announce that Mary Wilcox would be the 2025 Bigbury Lady Captain and this news was greeted with loud applause.

A successful and happy day had ended for another year.
