The final of the Scratch Cup which is a match play knockout competition, was played on Thursday between Jennifer Roberts (3) and Gill Hicks (10). It was an exciting match which ended at the 17th hole, with Gill winning 2/1.
The match was a joy to watch and played in a fantastic spirit. Both players played excellent golf, with six birdies between them.
It was nip and tuck all the way round with no player getting more than one up until Gill sank a long putt for a birdie on the 16th making her two up.
Jenny’s birdie putt lipped out of the hole, while Gill’s putting was certainly on form.
The Scratch Cup has been played for 10 years with only three winners, Jenny having won it eight times. Gill was thrilled to be the new holder of the cup.
On the same day the Eric Yarrow putting competition was held for juniors under 16. The winner was James Earl, who beat Ollie Walker in a play-off.
