THE Bigbury GC Ladies always look forward to the annual Lady Captain’s Away Day and certainly enjoyed their day hosted by Linda Hanbury at the China Fleet Leisure Centre and Golf Course.
Linda reports that, “After a very wet and windy weekend our ladies were happy to see the sun in Cornwall when they arrived for the Bigbury annual Captain’s Away Day. Following coffee on arrival and armed with caramel wafers and cereal bars,22 ladies played a Stableford competition, with a few muddy areas underfoot, as expected. This year of persistent rain has accustomed us to wet golf courses! However - no rain!
The long Championship course proved quite testing for most although there are a number of short par threes which provided three birdie twos - one each for Cathy Harrington,Rosemary Sharps and Sue Winzer. They received a bottle of fizz each for their efforts.
Prizes were also awarded for a nearest the pin in two on the 3rd and a nearest the Pin on the 15th holes.
Cherry Patterson earned the Captain’s prize with 36 points, this being her first ever round at China Fleet.
Cherry obviously enjoyed the course and wants to return and I enjoyed presenting her with the cut-glass trophy as well as a Christmas Rose plant for her garden. Prizes were awarded for the best seven scores and the rest received small token gifts.
A delicious meal followed with lots of chatter. Overall - it was voted a successful day out.”
Mary Wilcox, the Vice Captain, adds that it was a very fun day.
