SUNDAY August 18 proved to be a day of threes in the Bigbury Golf Club men’s Stableford Competition.
There were 40 playing in the competition and Ellis Mutton (handicap 42), Bigbury’s youngest member, was the convincing winner with an excellent score of 45 Stableford points. With such a good score, Ellis will also have earned himself a considerable handicap reduction.
In second place with a score of 40 points was Peter Bird (13) and he will also have had his handicap cut. There were two players with 38 points and the count-back showed it was Roy Mitchell (4) in third place from David Hills (13).
Ellis was playing with his father, Darren, and grandad Tony. The Kingwell brothers were another family of three, and Chris, David and Paul all enjoyed playing together for their round.
There was another three during the competition with Philip Oxenham bagging himself three birdie twos on the fifth, seventh and fifteenth holes. There were also birdies for Ryan Moore and Alan Johnson on the 15th, and John Cocks and Chris Kingwell on the 17th.
The day before, the ladies played their Stableford Competition and two divisions were needed.
Kim Flook (20) won Division One on countback from Pip Fisher (16), the pair scoring 38 points apiece. Helen Dinsale (22) was third with 34.
