STOKE Gabriel & Torbay Police welcomed Teignmouth AFC to Broadley Lane with the latter’s home ground at Coombe Valley suffering a land-slip and the location being switched around.
The Bees showed no remorse when it comes to the on-the-field outcome as they put six unanswered goals past the Teigns to continue their march up the South West Peninsula League Premier East table.
Josh Haynes, Finley Herbert, Jed Roberts, Sol Barclay and Elliott Simson were all on the scoresheet for Stoke along with an own-goal, taking them above Newton Abbot Spurs and into third.
Spurs were unable to respond on the weekend though as they were in Walter C Parson League Cup quarter-final action, losing out on penalties to Crediton United after a goalless 120 minutes.
The standings make for fascinating reading in truth- Spurs are two points behind Stoke with four games in hand and then Stoke are seven points behind Cullompton Rangers with three games in hand on them. There is plenty of scope for change.
Elsewhere in the league over the weekend, a young, makeshift Okehampton Argyle side let a two-goal lead slip to only earn a draw away at Honiton Town.
In a rare occurrence, leaders Sidmouth dropped points against Bishops Lydeard and the aforementioned Cully overcame Elburton Villa 2-1, thanks to goals from Ben Scott and Lloyd White.
Bovey Tracey AFC hosted Torrington AFC at Mill Marsh Park and were spurred onto victory by a Cal Leech hat-trick, a win that takes them above Torridgeside and into ninth. Talking of Torridgeside and they lost at Bridport FC, plus Middlezoy Rovers beat rock-bottom Axminster Town on their travels, by three goals to one.
Coming up this weekend, Stoke host leaders Sidmouth in the pick of the fixtures. Elsewhere, Spurs welcome Middlezoy to The Rec, Bovey and Teignmouth go to Honiton and Bishops Lydeard respectively and Okey are away at Cully in the League Cup.
