Devon Premier Cup
East Allington 6,
Bow AAC 1
Allington eased into the second round of the Devon Premier Cup with this comprehensive victory over their Devon and Exeter League rivals.
Down to the bare 11, they were forced to make two changes to last week’s side, the returning Jon Davis and Ben Robey replacing the unavailable Andy Davis and Fred Massey.
Allington were 4-1 up at half-time, the first coming after 15 minutes when the impressive James Ivatts reacted quickest after a superb Matthew Price free kick hit the angle of post and bar to head the ball home. The second followed shortly when James Ivatts turned neatly in the box to fire home from 12 yards.
It was 3-0 after about half an hour when, after a surging run from defence from Jamie Batchelor saw him beat a number of players and his cross hit the crossbar, Simon Hannaford followed up to pull the ball back for Ben Robey to slot home.
Allington switched off for a few minutes after scoring the third and Bow pulled one back from a soft free kick.
Minutes before half-time the Pirates restored their three-goal cushion when an excellent team move down the left resulted in Ben Robey setting up Simon Hannaford to score.
In the second half Allington controlled the game well and looked really solid, Richard Teague not really having a save to make.
Tom Rowdon made it 5-1 following up a save from a Simon Hannaford shot to fire home and it was Hannaford who added the sixth with a brilliant finish from a Matthew Price through ball.
James Bam Ivatts had a great chance to complete his hat-trick from close range, but the ‘keeper made a decent save.
This was a great team performance in which the players decided Jamie Batchelor was man of the match.
The reserves were again unlucky to lose, this time coming away from Ipplepen reserves with a 3-2 loss, Rob Hutchings with both goals.
This week’s club’s sponsor was LAC Feeds.
