Despite a smaller entry than usual, and back on grass after the storm, the ‘quaich’ trophy was once again hotly contested at Thurlestone.

The format consists of different generation pairs, who play nine holes of golf in the morning and round robin tennis in the afternoon.

The leaders after the golf were father and son combination of Adam and Tommy Walker, who came in with 21 stableford points.

Second at this stage was local pairing of Martin Eyre and Sammy Ingham with 20 points. But all change after the tennis where the experience of Nick Woodhead and his powerful partner Ollie Walker came to the fore, collecting 21 games giving them a total of 37 points. But Martin and Sammy also finished with 37, causing a tie break to determine the winners. This was a close affair with Nick and Ollie edging it 10-7 to clinch the trophy.

Played last week in fantastic weather was the July Cup for 10 to 13 year olds, which was won by Joseph Kleiner Mann and Eva Bennett in a tight final over Luke Barron and Cora Beckwith.

Also the Lepere Cup for 14 to 17-year-olds where Ollie Walker and Lucy Cleverly beat Giles Barron and Immy Walker 7-5 in a very high standard final.
