CORNWOOD 2nd XI hurtled to a six-wicket win over Paignton 2nd XI after holding them to 107 for eight in a 40-over game.

Sam Simcox (20), Arthur Ray (32) and George Woodcock (20) helped Paignton reach 90-3 with more than 15 overs to go.

Paignton got bogged down against spinners Jacob Caunter (2-11) and Jason Hall (2-7).

Knocking-off the runs was a 16-over task for Cornwood, whose only misfortunes were losing skipper Robin Dart and Stanley Baker for first-ball ducks. Lewis Swar (3-29) took both of them out.

Josh Goodliffe (26), Max Finzel (38no) and Sam Griffiths (20) made light work of the rest of the chase.

Said Dart: “Another fantastic bowling and fielding performance with Jason Hall leading the way with another performance to suggest he'll be the team’s player of the year.

“A classy knock from Finzel, and some bludgeoning from Josh Goodliffe, guided us home. Josh's fast starts have helped us break the back of many tricky low total chases this year.”
