SDFL division one
Newton 66 0,
East Allington 2
ALLINGTON came away from the Denbury playing fields with three excellent points.
After a cagey opening few minutes they began tot ake control and took a 17th minute lead when Dan Bowles won the ball in midfield, his early ball picked out the run of Ben Robey who raced through to slot the ball past the home keeper.
With Allington winning most of the battles all over the pitch and Chris Jebb closing down the home defence to win a lot of balls and also getting back to help just in front of the defence, and on the other side full back Jon Davis not only defending well but getting forward to set up many attacks they came close to doubling their lead when Robey again burst through the home defence but just as he was trying to set up Simon hannaford he lost control of the ball as it took a wicked bounce as the first half came to a close.
The second half carried on in much the same pattern and Allington soon doubled their lead when man of the match, Bowles, who had won most of the high balls in midfield picked up a loose ball from Tom Harvey's corner to advance forward and smashed it into the top corner.
With 25 minutes to go Harvey was fouled and then stamped on, but with the referee playing on in his frustration he got up to push the culprit, earning a red card, meaning Allington had to finish the game with 10 men.
Although the home side tried to throw everything at them, the back four of Craig Tucker, Steve Weeks, Neil Weeks and Jon Davis stood firm, hardly giving them a look in.
Hannaford, who dropped into midfield, was always prepared to make runs forward to support Robey with the help of Bowles and Jamie Batchelorm who worked tirelessly in midfield and still kept the home side's defence on their toes.
This week the first team face Pinhoe in the Devon Senior Cup at home, 2pm kick off.
The reserves travel to Totnes and Dartington, 2.30pm kick off, players meet 1.15pm.
