Kingsbridge 2nd XI (9 points) drew with Ipplepen 2nd X1 (15 points)
Kingsbridge took nine points and much satisfaction from a hard-fought losing draw at home to a more experienced Ipplepen seconds on Saturday.
The visitors were invited to bat first and posted 247-7. This was mainly thanks to their captain Simon Tapley, who set the tone for the innings with a rapid 64, after enjoying an earlier slice of luck.
The home side included many of the club's exciting crop of youngsters: Dan Hardy was the pick of the bowlers with 2-45 from nine overs, and 15-year-old Elliot Bradbury claimed his first senior league wicket.
Matt Peach and Ed Church put on 30 for the first wicket before Peach departed for 14, quickly followed by James Ellis with a rare failure. Left-hander Church hit an excellent 58 and Dan Hardy held the lower order together with 45 not out. He helped guide Elliott Bradbury, eight not out, through the last five overs, picking up an extra batting point on the way. Kingsbridge finished on 178 – 8.
This Saturday Kingsbridge travel to Bicton College to play Sidmouth thirds.
