A woman and her mum, who is in remission, are hosting a coffee morning to raise money for cancer support charity, Macmillan, as part of its September coffee morning initiative.
Following last year’s success with more than 100 cups of coffee sold, 200 pieces of cake eaten and more than £1,000 raised in total, West Alvington residents are hoping to top those numbers this year.
As part of the Macmillan initiative, ‘the world’s biggest coffee morning’ that is set to happen later this month, this specific coffee morning will be held at West Alvington Village Hall from 10am to 12.30pm on Sunday, September 2.
Macmillan runs the initiative in hopes of getting individuals to run a coffee morning in September to raise money for the charity, which has been providing support for people with cancer for more than 100 years.
Organiser Leanne Carr holds this charity close to her heart because it helped her mum while she was undergoing treatment for cancer, and was “a great support”. Her mum was able to fight through it, and is now running the coffee morning with her.
Along with a vast selection of cakes and endless coffee, there will be a raffle with ‘fantastic’ prizes donated by various local businesses, live music, tombola, cake decorating and crafts. There will even be something for the youngsters, as organisers have arranged a bouncy castle, hula hooping and a toy sale.
Leanne said: “The response from local businesses and residents has once again been fantastic. It’s so nice to all get together to raise money for such a great cause and to be part of an event that everyone can enjoy.
“Many thanks to all those who have donated prizes, baked cakes and are helping on the day.
We’ve had some fantastic raffle prizes donated including lunch at The Cottage Hotel, fish and chips from The Sand Pebbles, along with vouchers from the Ring O’Bells, Norsworthy Photography, The Hen House, The Creation Station, Kidz & Co and Tidal Gallery.
Plus, gifts from Pebbles, Hope Cove Gallery, Ajanta Studios, Cranches, Peter Betteridge, Hooperlative, and more.
“Please come along and enjoy a fun-filled morning and raise money for a good cause.”
