Lt-Col SE Southby-Tailyour, of Ermington, writes:
I have noticed, with incredulity, the words attributed to Mr Toms of Luson Farm – the landowner seeking permission to plant a 300ft high wind turbine on the top of the highest hill in the area.
If this is really his belief then he is deluding himself and, by making such untrue utterances, he is also misleading the public.
I understand a complaint has been circulating about the proposed height of the turbine, along with concerns about its visual impact but you would have to get through five fields and thick hedgerows to reach it.
Later he is further quoted: 'The figure of 774ft (above sea level) may be correct but as I've said before you would have to get through fields and hedgerows to see it at all.'
Frankly, this is tripe and Mr Toms is juggling the facts.
Only two fields are shown on the developer's map – one with a road along two sides – accessible to the turbine.
This will be a structure twice as high as the adjacent television mast and one that will be seen by thousands of residents between Plymouth and Totnes and between Dartmoor and the sea let alone by a vast 'passing trade' along the two major roads through the South Hams.
The Toms family will not see this turbine from Luson Farm and only they have to cross five fields to reach it.
