I feel that the National Trust is pushing the boundaries of support in expecting us to pay a single charge of £3 to use its car park on Bolberry Down.
True, this is for all-day parking, but how many people park there all day?
It is free for trust members but you have to register your membership card with the ticket machine.
How many members carry their cards when out walking?
Most visitors spend a few hours or less walking; some with dogs on regular basis; some with children, including pushchairs; some are disabled and in wheelchairs.
The path for disabled visitors was created as a result of my dear friend Ian Leech, several years ago. It opened the door for so many disabled and elderly visitors. The same goes for Snapes Point.
A wonderful memorial to such a caring parish.
I appreciate we owe a great owe deal to the National Trust.
Thanks to the trust we have the joy of walking the coast paths. Enterprise Neptune achieved to much for the benefit of all.
Bolberry Down is one of the few places in this area which is comparatively safe and flat – a haven for birds and wildlfowers.
The latest innovation will discourage visitors, including trust members, unless the charge is variable depending on how long people want to stay.
And surely Blue Badge holders should not have to pay and it ought to be sufficient for members to dipslay their current car windscreen sticker without requiring them to go to the ticket machine.
I have been a National Trust member for more than 50 years. I consider this good support and will continue my membership as long as I am able.
