A brand new interactive exhibition will be appearing in a South Hams’ pop-up shop for inspiring and engaging families on energy.
South Dartmoor Community Energy will be hosting their first ‘Energy Lab’ exhibition at the Pop-Up Shop in Glanvilles Mill, Ivybridge.
The free event will take place between 9:30am and 1pm on Saturday, June 17, with a great selection of activities on offer for all ages. Activities include a crafts and story corner for the little ones, and science experiments and model building for the older children.
The Energy Lab is part of the national Community Energy Fortnight, and the Climate Coalition’s Speak Up Week of Action. The Community Energy Fortnight focuses on showcasing examples of communities generating renewable energy, while the Climate Coalition’s Speak Up week involves local areas trying to protect their area from climate change.
South Dartmoor Community Energy is a local not for profit company, working in the South Hams area to alleviate fuel poverty, reduce carbon emissions and help people get involved in community-owned renewable energy projects.
They recently held a competition for students at Ivybridge Community College to design posters for the exhibition, covering topics such as climate change, fuel poverty and how to live a sustainable lifestyle.
A spokesman for South Dartmoor Community Energy said: “We know that young people care about our planet, and we wanted to give them a space to have their voice heard and a chance to work on a real campaign to inspire and motivate people to make lifestyle changes.”
Adults can also take part in the Energy Lab exhibition with the opportunity of talking to an energy advice team, discovery the benefits of community energy and finding out how they can get involved.
A director of South Dartmoor Community Energy, Sophie Phillips, said: “It’s going to be buzzing! We have loads planned to inspire and engage people, and even a few surprises.”
