The Rotary Club of Dartmouth has presented a cheque to the Dartmouth Sea Cadets.

The £1,000 cheque was from money raised from the proceeds of the Great Duck Race held in the Boatfloat during the annual Rotary summer fete in July.

This gift from the rotary club will be used for cadet training on outside courses and as contributions towards offshore courses.

The groups of cadets and juniors were meeting for their regular parade within the grounds of Britannia Royal Naval Collage with staff members present which included Lieutenant Kerrigan, APO’s Didsbury and Didsbury-Schol were in support.

The cheque was presented to the cadets who had helped on the day of the fete by selling duck tickets before the ducks took a death defying leap into the Boatfloat at the start of the race.

Representing Dartmouth Rotary and making the presentation was rotarian George Ord who organised the Great Duck Race.

George said: “Dartmouth Rotary Club’s summer fundraising event this year was a fete in the Royal Avenue Gardens.

“Part of this was a Boatfloat duck race with the Dartmouth Sea Cadets being the major benefactors. The race was sponsored by many local businesses and several of the cadets helped on the day.

“The race, and the fete were a huge success resulting in a cheque for £1,000 being presented by the Dartmouth Rotary Club to the Dartmouth Sea Cadets.”

The sea cadet receiving the cheque was Laurence Lyons-Martin, who was one of the four cadets who attended the fete to help raise money.
