THE grand finale weekend of South Brent's carnival saw contrasting weather affect proceedings, although the sun shone on the main parade.
Chudleigh's carnival queen float won the 'Queen of Queens' category, and 'Yer Tis' from Ipplepen was named best overall float. South Brent Beavers and Cubs were judged best overall pedestrians and The Oak won the scarecrow competition.
The highlight was the unveiling of the South Brent Carnival Royalty float, a blood-red Latino extravaganza emblazoned with the word 'Espana'. The stars of the show, wearing red and yellow flamenco-style dresses, stood among colourful flowers, with a huge bull, a cactus and an arch adding to the visual effect.
However, after the sunny excitement of Saturday evening, Sunday proved to be a damp squib, with bad weather forcing the cancellation of the planned cricket and children's sports. Carnival organisers hope to reschedule the event for later in the year.
The Carnival Club would like to thank everyone involved for their work and for helping to keep the event running year after year.
