A 37-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson following a blaze that destroyed a bungalow in Totnes last month.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Services were alerted to the fire on Bridgewater Gardens shortly in the early hours of the morning on October 28.

Five fire appliances were dispatched to the scene, with Brixham and Paignton Fire crews joining the operation. Upon arrival, firefighters found the bungalow engulfed in flames, with the roof having collapsed into the building and with fire breaking through the windows.

The fire was intense enough to affect an adjacent property, but no injuries were reported.

Crews, equipped with breathing apparatus, tackled the blaze using hose reel jets, although the fire was not fully extinguished until about 09:40am, some four hours after the initial alert.
