The banners that have been going up throughout the town this past week are signifying the town council’s initiative to improve Fore Street.
Kingsbridge town council want to celebrate the independent retailers across Kingsbridge by advertising available products.
Recently, the town council created a working party to focus on the improvement of Fore Street and support the huge array of retailers who work hard all year round.
As part of this initiative, the town council have commissioned street banners that have been going up throughout this week by the fire brigade.
They will be using the same identity as the Tourist Information Centre with the Hello Kingsbridge branding on the banners, which will show overhead photographic shots of products you can buy within the town.
Chris Povey, mayor of Kingsbridge said the initiative will celebrate the “independent high street” as a retail centre in the South Hams.
The banners will be positioned on the rails where the christmas lights go, but the town council have ensured that they will not block any historic views and space has been saved for seasonal banners.
This working party has already had a street clean and is already planning the next stage of the process, to make the town a more attractive place to visit. They will be doing year round planting of tress and plants to improve the look of the town.
In addition, the council are looking into providing more seating and new bins to improve Fore Street. In light of this, there has been a meeting with a Highways Officer to discuss designs for an improved street scene.
Another idea suggested by the mayor was the introduction of waymarker signs at the bottom and top of town to inform visitors of the geography of the town. In addition, it is hoped that the signs could provide some heritage information about the town and highlight what can be enjoyed in Kingsbridge.
