Twenty years ago, in 1997, while I was a teacher at Dartmouth Primary School, I organised a collection of primarily plastic waste on our coastline.
Students, parents, staff and members of the public collected more than 70 bin bags of rubbish between Prawle Point and Strete Gate.
On Saturday, my son Matt and I visited Lannacombe Beach and collected the equivalent of at least two bags within ten minutes.
We need everyone who visits our beaches to do some clearing, whether residents or visitors.
This is a vast problem, but something we can all help with. I wonder how many bags we would collect along the same stretch of coastline now? Any volunteers?
