A South Hams barbershop group have done themselves proud coming 14th at a national competition.
The Kingsmen Harmony Chorus, made up of 60 members, received their second best score ever at the National Barbershop Convention. They have been attending the event since 1999.
37 choruses from across the UK took part in the 43rd British Association of Barbershop Singers’ National Barbershop Convention, which was held at Bournemouth’s International Conference Centre.
After a four year gap in attendance of the annual convention, feeling that the time was right, the Kingsmen Harmony Chorus decided to enter this year.
Roy Hann, the music director of the Kingsmen Harmony Chorus, said: “I am very pleased with the result considering that of the 47 Kingsmen who took part, 14 were making their debut on the national stage”.
Since their inception in 1991, the Kingsmen Harmony Chorus have raised over £101,000 for both local and national charities, such as Victim Support, Cancer Relief and hospices, and the Chestnut Appeal.
The Kingsmen will be heading to the USA next year for a 12 date tour of Pennsylvania, Washington DC and New York, including a performance with the renowned Alexandria Harmonizers.
