Nominations are now being sought for Salcombe’s Citizen of the Year 2018.
It is a prestigious award presented each year to a resident, or someone who volunteers in the town of Salcombe. Candidates will have given their time and energy, normally on a voluntary basis, to benefit the local community. The winner will be presented with a commemorative plaque at a town council meeting or event. In addition, his or her name will be added along with previous recipients to a commemorative display board which is hung in the Salcombe Library.
The 2017 Citizen of the Year was awarded to Debbie Hainey, chair of the Salcombe Regatta committee, and runs the Cater Cove Hair and Beauty Salon on Market Street. She is now in her fifth year of being chair of the regatta, and has been on the committee for thirteen years. She dedicates an extraordinary amount of time to the town’s annual regatta. In the past, Debbie was a committee member of Salcombe Preschool and the Rugby Minis team, as well as volunteering and giving time to many other projects and events in the town.
