IVYBRIDGE Community College's javelin star Bradley Green secured bronze at the UK School Games at the Don Valley Stadium Sheffield at the weekend.

The Sainsbury's UK School Games brought together elite young sports people from 12 sports to the city of Sheffield. Green, 16, was competing for Team Bristol, with one athlete being selected for each discipline and selected from the counties of Avon, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Hampshire, Somerset, Sussex and Wiltshire.

He was in third position after round three of the event, but a fantastic throw from Terry Morgan from the Gateshead team looked as though it would jeopardise his chance of getting on the podium.

However, in the final round, round six, he produced a fantastic throw of 58.09m to secure his place on the podium.

This success caps a superb summer for the teenager after he came came fourth at the England Athletics U15 and U17 championships at Bedford with a throw of 56.64m.

The championships attract athletes from the whole of the UK and is seen as the top open competition in the U17 calendar.

Green also won gold at the Midland Counties Championships at the Alexander Stadium, Birmingham on August 6.
