You've guessed it – brand new signs directing folk to a 'free car park'.

You really could not make it up, could you?

South Hams Council and Devon Highways perpetually seem to get their wires crossed.

A case of end-of-year budget-draining, no doubt – and 'keep your heads below the parapet, lads'.

Of course, if the car park does stay free, I shall tip my hat and apologise but don't hold your breath.

Another nail in the coffin of village life I fear.
