STUDENTS from Kingsbridge Community College have produced a video promoting the town’s award-winning Trim Trail for the town council.

Kingsbridge’s Trim Trail is aimed at improving people’s fitness, health and participation in physical activities, and includes 14 items of exercise equipment in the grounds of Quay House, Duncombe Park and the Recreation Ground.

On Wednesday, September 21, Year 12 media students, along with three teachers form the college - Jonathan Snell, Wat Kirby and Sarah Jan Mahomed, produced the film with professional support from the Really Good Media Company of Dartmouth.

In the video, Councillor Martina Edmonds demonstrates the rowing machine, Charlie Grills, long-term resident of the town uses the leg press, KTC administrator Laura Cregan works out her upper body, town clerk Martin Johnson explains how the Trim Trail came into being and Councillor Sandy Gilbert worked behind the scenes as the film’s runner. Martina’s dog, Jem, also bagged a role representing the Kingsbridge canine community.

The enthusiastic students learned much from the day through having the opportunity to connect with a professional video company and experiment with professional techniques and equipment. They were able to broaden their technical scope and ability as well as learning first-hand how best to coach interviewees. The students also used the exercise equipment with much vigour, demonstrating sound British Heart Foundation advice to work at a level where one was warm, working hard, but still able to speak.

Jonathan Snell, teacher of ICT and media at KCC said: ‘We are very grateful to the town council for providing us with a real life brief for the students to work towards and also very grateful to Jack from the Really Good Media Company who was just absolutely fantastic and a real inspiration to our students. But most of all we were extremely proud of our students who operated in a very professional way and created some fantastic footage for the town council. This was a great way for students to learn about the media industry and I look forward to the final videos being used in our community to raise the profile of Trim Trail.

The video will hopefully be out soon, so watch this space for news of its release.

Meanwhile, if you are keen to have a go yourself, a useful instructional booklet on how to use and enjoy the Trim Trail is available for £1 from Kingsbridge Town Council, Kingsbridge Information Centre or Cafe Decks at the Recreation Ground.
