ADAM TUCKER, of Slapton, writes:
I am sure a number of your readers will agree with me when I say I have often wondered whether I get value for money out of my council tax payments. It is a subject that has puzzled me for many years, particularly with regards to the maintenance of our roads.
I am delighted to say that this puzzle has now been answered to my entire satisfaction.
The first part of the answer came while driving from Stanborough Gate to Slapton. This lane has a pothole that completely destroyed one of my tyres.
I happen to know that at least seven tyres or wheels over a two-day period were similarly destroyed by this pothole, which is one of numerous holes that I encounter as I drive around the South Hams.
However, the inconvenience and cost of replacing tyres and wheels pales into complete insignificance if one dares to venture as far as Halwell.
There lies the final answer to my puzzle.
The most beautifully handcrafted stone wall that has only inconvenienced the traffic for 17 weeks so far, which will stand for time immemorial as a monument to those wonderful decision makers that we have at County Hall, regarding the expenditure of our hard-earned cash.
I am delighted to say my vacillation is now over and I have reached my decision.
