Plans to change the use of a prominent building on Fore Street in Ivybridge to a builder’s merchant have attracted over one hundred and fifty letters of objection.
The application is to change the use of the building from motor sales. Ivybridge Town Council submitted a letter of support for the application to the South Hams District Council, without discussing the application in front of the full council.
The applicant, Palladium Building Supplies, has a site in Blair Road in Ivybridge and wants to expand.
The majority of the objections centre around proposals for steel fences around the site which it is claimed are not in keeping with surroundings.
Other objections cited concerns about the possible increase in traffic, with vans and trucks making deliveries to the site making access to the Highlands Health Centre and the nearby primary school more dangerous.
Councillors at South Hams District Council will ultimately decide whether to approve or reject the application. Their next development and management meeting will happen on the 18th October.
The site has been disused for a while and Ivybridge Town Councillors are minded that the vacant site needs to be occupied.
Palladium has refused to comment on the application.
