ChoralFest will be at this year’s Dartington Summer School, for a week of enchanting evening recitals and special concerts from August 3 to 10 in the Great Hall.
Tickets are mostly £10 or you can buy a Full Concerts Pass for all seven evening recitals for £60.
Saturday, August 3: Winterreise
Experience Schubert’s profound song cycle for voice and piano, set to 24 poems by Wilhelm Müller.
Sunday, August 4: A Woman’s Love and Life
Mezzo-soprano Victoria Simmonds and pianist Lada Valešová take you through a poignant journey of a woman’s love and life.
Monday, August 5: On Wenlock Edge
Delve into Vaughan Williams’s beloved song cycle, featuring six poems from A. E. Housman’s A Shropshire Lad.
Tuesday, August 6: Songs and Dances of Death
Internationally renowned ass James Platt and pianist Lada Valešová present Shostakovich’s powerful Four Romances Op. 46.
Wednesday, August 7: Sea Pictures & Songs of Travel
Mezzo-soprano Sarah Pring and bass James Platt, accompanied by pianist Lada Valešová, perform Elgar’s Sea Pictures and Vaughan Williams’ Songs of Travel.
Friday, August 9: Sound of Music Singalong
Join the fun with a singalong screening of the classic musical starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer.
Saturday, August 10: Rachmaninov’s All-Night Vigil (Vespers)
ChoralFest culminates with Gavin Carr conducting Rachmaninov’s sublime All-Night Vigil, featuring soloists Sarah Pring, Daniel Norman, and James Platt.
The event is held in the Great Hall on a site occuped for well over a thousand years.
