Volunteers are celebrating after raising over £17,000 for Children’s Hospice South West in the last year – for the third year running.

The CHSW Dartmouth & District Friends Group have run a number of local fundraising events during that time and want to send their very grateful thanks to everyone who helped them to raise the wonderful amount of £17,418 for Children’s Hospice South West.

Volunteer Sue Tweed said ‘This is an incredible amount for our small group of volunteers, who are all totally committed to helping this essential charity to continue to provide specialist support to over 550 families with life-limited children in the South West.’

The work continues and on Saturday June 29, the CHSW Dartmouth & District Friends Group will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of their annual art and craft event in aid of Children’s Hospice South West.

Dart Art Day will take place from 10am to 4pm in Royal Avenue Gardens and promises to be another lovely occasion to celebrate and support this incredible charity.

As well as 22 artists and craft workers in their gazebos with arts and crafts galore, there will be musical entertainment, balloon sculptures, CHSW tombolas, as well as refreshments provided by Children’s Hospice volunteers and supporters.

The aim is to raise as much money as possible to help the charity to make the most of the short and precious lives of children not likely to reach adulthood – last year it raised over £3,300.

The Friends will also be taking part in the Dartmouth Rotary Summer Fete on Friday 2nd August and will be serving tea and cakes again from the Royal Avenue Gardens tea hut on Thursday 19th September, with a Christmas Fair in the Market on Saturday 7thDecember.

Sue Tweed added ‘As the only children’s hospice in the South West, which costs almost £12 million to run each year, the charity relies so much on voluntary contributions and fundraising events.

The group meets monthly.
