A COUPLE are embarking on a charity American adventure.
Eunice Kratky and Guy Butcher from Saltash have just set off on an intrepid adventure across America to raise money for the Dame Hannah Rogers Trust.
The pair plan to drive a 1930s Austin 7 from Halifax, Nova Scotia to Alaska before turning south to Tierra del Fuego at the very bottom of South America.
They have set up their own charity Bespk , Bringing Extra to Special Kids, and within this they are supporting Hannahs as well as Save the Children Fund.
They visited Hannah's in Ivybridge recently to show some of the students their Austin Seven.
The total distance they expect to travel is about 25,000 miles in 12 to 18 months. The car is a 1938 Austin 7, which has been completely rebuilt and specially prepared for the adventure with the help and advice of many friends.
The car was chosen for its remarkable abilities and the ready availability of spares. It has the advantage of being small and light but is capable of travelling anywhere.
Eunice and Guy said: 'Through this adventure we wish to raise funds to help children and young people with special or additional needs and their families. To achieve this we have set up the charity Bespk. The target is to raise £1m pounds.'
The Dame Hannah Rogers Trust, based at Ivybridge and Seale-Hayne, specialises in delivering therapy and medical services, education and care for children, young people and young adults with physical and/or learning disabilities.
