A rare Agave Americana is in flower in the South Hams.
The plant is in flower at Ash Park, East Prawle, in a large sub-tropical garden owned by Chris and Cathryn Vanderspar, which is part of the National Garden Scheme.
As part of the charitable scheme, the garden is open to the public on Saturday and Sunday, September 15 and 16, between 11am and 5pm.
Entry is £5 for adults and free entry for children, with refreshments provided all day, and the profits are split between the National Garden Scheme and the Restoration Fund for the local Church of St Sylvester, Chivelstone, which is currently waiting for a response to a major Heritage Lottery Fund grant application.
The flowering Agave is rare in the UK, it only flowers once at the end of its life, after decades of growth. The three-and-a-half acres of sub-tropical gardens are in a stunning location with 180 degree view of the sea at Prawle Point.
