The gardens of a Grade I listed South Hams home will be open to the public this Mother’s Day, in aid of Children’s Hospice South West.

Visitors will get a rare glimpse inside the gardens at Mothecombe House on the Flete Estate near Holbeton. They will be open on Sunday, March 26 from 11am – 4pm - the perfect place to visit for Mother’s Day.

CHSW described the garden as "full of spring flowers, mature trees and plants, woodland walks, a stream, ponds and a private beach“.

Mother’s Day at Mothecombe is part of the CHSW Garden Trail, where outdoor spaces usually closed to the public are opened to raise money for the charity. CHSW celebrated a 25th anniversary in 2016, and is dedicated to “making the most of short and precious lives.”

Its focus is on “providing the best possible hospice care for life-limited children and their families". This event will help support the charity, which relies almost entirely on voluntary contributions.

CHSW community fundraiser Zoe Partridge said: "We are really excited about the return of our garden trail and are delighted that so many gardens are featuring this year. Simply by visiting the gardens you are helping us to make the most of short and precious lives.

"We hope that you will spread the word to friends and family about the various gardens open as part of the 2017 Garden Trail. "

The Garden Trail runs until October across the South West. Other gardens coming up over the next couple of months include: Port Eliot, St Germans, May 6; Trematon Castle, Saltash, May 1; Boconnoc, Lostwithiel, May 14; Kelly House, Lifton, June 10 and 11.
