Salcombe’s all-weather lifeboat The Baltic Exchange III was launched after a MAYDAY call from a fishing boat one mile south of Start Point.
The call, on Friday, September 29, saw the Coastguard request the launch of the Salcombe Lifeboat after a crew member had sustained ’multiple injuries’.
Upon arrival at the scene, two members of the volunteer crew, one of whom is a doctor, transferred to the fishing vessel to assess the situation and were joined by a winchman/paramedic from the Coastguard helicopter.
After stabilising the casualty, it was decided that due to the injuries sustained it would be best to transfer the casualty to the ALB for a safe winch directly to the helicopter and onward transfer to Derriford Hospital.
