Police are investigating after receiving reports that a child was allegedly assaulted.
Kingsbridge police were called on Monday afternoon after it was reported that a boy from Kingsbridge Community College had been beaten up.
It is alleged that he was assaulted at Ropewalk and was found outside Barclays Bank by two members of the public.
The two members of the public, Cassie Smith and Patricia Jenkins, noticed the boy was unsteady on his feet and, along with his friends, brought him to the nearby pub, King of Prussia, as they knew it was a “safe place”.
There, Georgia Jenkins, barmaid at King of Prussia, sat the boy down and kept him hydrated while dabbing his wounds with towels until the police came.
Opinions about why the fight started were shared on social media, however Sgt Dave Green told Kingsbridge Town Council at its AGM meeting on Tuesday night that the online activity was a good example of when social media bore very little resemblance to the facts of the case.
The police said on Facebook: “An investigation has been opened and witnesses will be spoken to in due course.
“We would ask you not to make accusations and speculations on social media as this could prejudice the situation.”KCC has been contacted for comment, but we have not received one at the time of going to press
