Fire stations around the South Hams are looking to recruit on-call firefighters and an open trial day is to happen for people who are interested.
Fire stations in Kingsbridge, Salcombe, Modbury, Kingston, Totnes, Dartmouth, Ivybridge, Plymstock and Plympton are all looking for people to fill empty timetables.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service are recruiting people who live within five minutes of any of these stations.
The official job is an on-call firefighter, which involves having a pager and being able to respond to the station within five minutes.
If you’re interested, Totnes Fire Station is holding an open trial day on Saturday, July 7. The day is being organised by Caroline Anderson, and you can book a spot by emailing her at [email protected] or calling 07800 555340.
Neil Willmott, support officer for the South Hams and watch manager of Plympton Fire Station said: “It is a big commitment but also a very rewarding role which will give you the chance to learn extra skills and meet friends for life.”
Most stations are looking for daytime and weekend cover, especially fire stations in Kingsbridge, Salcombe, Modbury, Kingston and Plympton.
There is no experience necessary to apply. The only prerequisites are you must be over the age of 18, have a good level of fitness, work well under pressure and have good communication skills. Women are also encouraged to apply, as anyone can be a firefighter.
If you’re unable to attend the trial day, but are still interested, email Dave at [email protected] for Kingsbridge; Mark at [email protected] for Salcombe; Pete at [email protected] for Modbury or Kingston; and Neil [email protected] for Plympton, or call 01392 872200 for all other stations and more information.
