Alpacas and geese were released unharmed from an outbuilding as a precaution when fire broke out in a nearby workshop.
Firefighters were called to the blaze at a commercial workshop at Glazebrook, South Brent, on Friday at 11am.
The fire was well alight when the fire crews arrived from Ivybridge, Buckfastleigh and Ashburton. Two water bowsers were requested due to a shortage of hydrants in the area. Appliances from Plympton and Torquay were also mobilised.
Four firefighters wore breathing apparatuses as they battled to bring the blaze under control.
Crews were still fighting the fire at 4pm. Its cause is yet to be determined.
